Women of Augustana Project:  Collecting Canceled Stamps For Charity

Don't throw away those envelopes with stamps on them!  Bring them to the Women of Augustana meeting on October 8.

One of the projects of the Women of Augustana is to recycle canceled stamps — US and international — for charity.  They are sent to Norway to an organization called Tubfrim which collects, removes stamps from the paper, packages them and sells them.  The proceeds are used to help handicapped children and youth in Norway.

Right next to the collection boxes for Campus Ministry toiletry items and used print cartridges is a small red plaid box labeled Canceled Stamps for Charity where you can place your canceled stamps.  Please remember that it is important that when a stamp is cut or torn off the envelope that a one-fourth inch (or more) margin is left in order to keep the perforation intact otherwise the stamp cannot be used.  Also TUBFRIM asks that domestic and international stamps be placed in separate envelopes.

In the Spring the WOA sent off a packet of stamps to TUBFRIM.  A thank you letter was received which said, “We give used stamps a new value.”
