In November, Pastor Laura King went to the University of Illinois to meet with the board and staff of Lutheran Campus Ministry of Illinois (LCMI). The Illinois Board provides oversight to each of the ministries throughout the state, and divides the funds they receive from the larger church.
The ministry of the state of Illinois is primarily funded by four sources: Metropolitan Chicago Synod, Northern Illinois Synod, Central-South Illinois Synod, and the ELCA church-wide office. Augustana and Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Chicago receives about $31,000 a year from LCMI.
During their meeting, the group discussed their common ministries and their future plans. Money is always tight, so in the future, the need for further fund-raising and creative thinking will be necessary.
Remember, Augustana gives $45,000 away each year to the greater church. That money is used to fund all kinds of ministries throughout the ELCA, but much of it comes right back to us in the form of campus ministry funds! Thank you for your dedication to our common mission to the University of Chicago community!
